The holidays are a time for family and friends to come together and spend some much-needed quality time together. Some spend the day cooking and watching football, some volunteering in the local community, and some gather to run races for a good cause. If you’re interested in some outdoor activities and exercise, the local community has plenty to offer this Thanksgiving.

November 25th (Thanksgiving Day)

The Long Grove Turkey Trot in Long Grove, IL will have a 5k and an 8k race. Registration fees range from $30-$50. And you will finish under the historic Long Grove covered bridge!

Another option for you runners out there is the 2021 Mayors Turkey Day Run, hosted by the Kenosha running club. The race takes place at the Kenosha Public Museum, costs $15 to register, and you have the option of running the 2-mile route or the 10k route.

The North Shore Turkey Trot is being hosted in Highland Park, IL. The race features a 5k and a 10k course, and costs $50 and $60 respectively. The run helps support the Highland Park Police Benevolent Association.

If you’re looking for another great cause, consider running in the Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot 5k in Elmhurst. The race costs $35 to register and benefits food pantries and other charities that will provide food and comfort to the neediest residents of DuPage County. There is also a virtual option for those who cannot make it to the in-person event.

If you’re in Wisconsin, consider the Turkey Trot 5k in Racine. The event begins at 9am and requires a $25 registration fee. The Turkey Trot is also encouraging donations to local food pantries to benefit the hungry.

November 27th

If you’d rather run over the weekend, the Schaumburg half marathon and 5k is a perfect choice. This local Turkey Trot is running for a great cause, the Fetching Tails foundation. The Fetching Tails Foundation is a non-profit that rescues dogs of any age, breed, or physical ability. If you can’t make it out to Schaumburg, you can sign up to run virtually.
