️ Community Non-Profit Spotlight: Salute, Inc.
Salute, Inc. is a local non-profit based in Palatine, IL, that provides financial support and resources to active military personnel, veterans, and their families. They also work to raise awareness of the challenges faced by our service members.
Don’t miss their Memorial Weekend 5K/10K in Arlington Heights on Saturday, May 25—come out and cheer on the runners!
️ Tornado Safety While Driving: What You Should Know
If you’re driving during a tornado warning, get off the road immediately. The National Weather Service strongly advises against parking under bridges or taking shelter beneath trees—these locations are not safe.
Be prepared and know the safest places to seek shelter if you’re caught on the road during severe weather.
Pressure Washer Safety: Avoid Injury While Cleaning
Pressure washers are effective but powerful tools that can cause serious injury if misused. In fact, over 800 pressure washer-related injuries were reported by OSHA in 2017—all of which were preventable.
Before you tackle your next outdoor cleaning project, make sure you’re using your equipment safely and properly.
Reduce Your Exposure to Pollen
Tree and grass pollen levels are high this time of year. Here are some easy ways to minimize allergic reactions:
-
Keep windows closed during peak hours
-
Change clothes after being outside
-
Shower before bed to remove pollen
-
Monitor the daily pollen count
Take simple precautions and enjoy spring without the sneezing!
☕ Gerry’s Café: Creating Jobs, Opportunity & Community
Gerry’s Café is an inspiring new project by co-founders Natalie Griffin and Amy Philpott. Their goal is to open a café that employs and empowers adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
With an 80% unemployment rate among the disabled in some areas, Gerry’s Café seeks to:
-
Provide job training and employment
-
Build inclusion through community engagement
-
Offer great food, coffee, and friendly service
We’re proud to support this initiative and hope you’ll consider getting involved.
