Winter Driving Safety Tips

We wanted to share some winter driving safety tips with you all:

  1. When you’re driving in snow or slippery conditions, drive smoothly, accelerate smoothly, decelerate smoothly, and turn your vehicle more smoothly than you normally would under dry conditions; otherwise that can cause to a loss of traction.
  2. Slow down and leave a greater stopping distance for yourself.
  3. If you do start to skid, control the skid. If the rear of your vehicle is skidding out to the right, steer in the direction that you’re skidding, get your foot off the accelerator, and then once you regain traction, steer in the direction that you need to go. Most vehicles today have anti-lock brakes, the best way to use them is to press down firmly on the brake and hold; keep steering your vehicle around any obstructions and once you regain traction, go back to your normal driving.
  4. Look into what insurance coverage you have, and make sure that you are adequately protected by having both bodily injury and uninsured and underinsured motorist limits, of at least $250,000. We see many people in our practice that are underinsured and do not, because of that, receive full compensation, for their injuries and damages.

Stay safe and be well!
