Arlington Heights

arlington heightsArlington Heights, Illinois, provides a wonderful home for its residents with great restaurants, stores, and schools. In fact, it has been home to Ronald F. Wittmeyer for most of his life. Best known for Arlington Park Race Track, home of the Arlington Million, Arlington Heights gives the Chicago suburbs lots of entertainment and a world class racetrack. Arlington Heights encompasses an area bordered by Lake Cook Rd. to the north, Wilke Rd. to its west, I-90 to the south, and extends as far east as Schoenbeck Rd.

Additionally, it prides itself on having great high schools for its many teenagers, including Rolling Meadows High SchoolProspect High SchoolJohn Hersey High School and Buffalo Grove High School. And after school, those students can go to the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, which has one of the largest collections in the state.

During the weekend, residents can see many plays and comedy shows at the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in downtown Arlington Heights, which also serves as a center of arts education. Some of the most popular restaurants include Javier’s Sabor Mexicano, Peggy Kinane’s, Mago Grill, and Francesca’s.

Although it’s been dubbed the ‘City of Good Neighbors’ that doesn’t necessarily mean the city is full of good drivers.  A resident of Arlington Heights has, on average, a 29 minute commute to work 5 days a week. Its great location offers easy access to major thoroughfares making travel to O’Hare International Airport, the City of Chicago, and nearby suburbs quick and easy.  Downtown Arlington Heights is also home to the busiest Metra commuter stop on the Northwest rail line.

So what does all that mean for someone driving in Arlington Heights?  Well, the 29 minute commute represents every minute you are at risk of being involved in a car accident.  The city’s convenient location attracts more traffic, much of which consists of out-of-towners who may not be familiar with the side streets or parking in Downtown Arlington Heights, increasing the chances of fender benders.  The railroad station means that large groups of pedestrians will be walking around the area once an hour for most of the day.

7890881338_06eb9471b5_bMove out of the way of traffic, if possible, and use your car’s hazard lights to alert others of the incident.  If you or anyone involved are injured, call 911 to have an ambulance sent to the scene.  Even if no one is injured, call the police by dialing 911.  In Arlington Heights, you must call 911 for all calls requiring a police response—from emergency situations to stray dogs. The front desk of the Arlington Heights Police Department is only to be utilized to obtain basic department information. Not only is obtaining a police report a good idea for insurance purposes but the law requires that all traffic accidents resulting in personal injury, death, or property damage in excess of $500 be reported within 10 days after the accident occurs, and an accident report must be filed with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). After obtaining necessary medical treatment, getting a copy of the police report, taking pictures, and gathering witness info, it is time to determine if you need an attorney.  If you have only suffered minor injuries then you can probably handle the claim on your own but if your injuries are more serious it is best to seek the assistance of an attorney.  If you have any doubts as to whether or not hiring a personal injury attorney is in your best interest, contact the Law Offices of R.F. Wittmeyer, Ltd. for a free consultation.
