Although it is one of the smaller suburbs in the area, it is right in the middle of many of the most populated suburbs in the regions. It’s hard to travel from east to west from Palatine or Arlington Heights and not drive through Inverness. Bordered by by Barrington Road to the west, Roselle Road to the east, Algonquin Road to the south, and Dundee Road to the north, Inverness, Illinois, is almost 7 square miles and is home to over 7,000 people. Approximately 29 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, Inverness is known for its natural beauty and rolling landscapes. And an interesting fact: the town hall used to be a hideout for Al Capone! For those interested in Chicago’s notorious gangster era, a side trip to the Inverness village hall is a must. It is the former alcohol storage facility of Al Capone. People come from all over the suburbs and Chicago to see this one-of-a-kind town halls. It’s hard to miss!
Inverness Golf Course
Directly next to Palatine and Hoffman Estates, Inverness includes the Golf Club (although the street address notes it is in Palatine). The 18-Hole Course was laid out in the 1920s and updated by a world famous golf course builder to form a Camelot setting. Although a membership is required, it is still central to this lovely town.

However, tragedy can hit any town, including Inverness. In 1995, a young girl lost her life in a car accident. She was killed on Mother’s Day when a motorcycle slammed into the passenger side of the car her grandmother was driving. To honor the young girl, the Inverness Park District to dedicate a new park in honor because they “are a real small community,” and this was an “opportunity to keep her memory alive.” Maggie Rogers Memorial Park is at the northwest corner of Ela and Bradwell Roads.
