Directly north of Arlington Heights is Buffalo Grove, Illinois. Buffalo Grove sits within Cook and Lake County and is home to over 40,000 residents. Buffalo Grove is split along Lake Cook Road into two parts. Other communities that border Buffalo Grove are Riverwoods, Deerfield, Lincolnshire , Vernon Hills, and Long Grove. According to Wikipedia, “[a] modest 13.8% is for parks and open space; there are 50 parks throughout the village and 45 miles (72 km) of bike paths/sidewalks. The Mike Rylko Community Park, located northwest of the intersection of McHenry Road (IL Route 83) and Buffalo Grove Road, is the largest park in the village with an estimated 76.5 acres (31.0 ha). The village also manages a small portion of the Buffalo Creek Forest Preserve which primarily is located in Long Grove. The forest preserve has a total of 408 acres (165 ha) and located north of the intersection of Lake-Cook Road and Arlington Heights Road.”
Two high school districts serve Buffalo Grove: Township High School District 214 and Adlai E. Stevenson High School District 125. The majority of public high school students in Buffalo Grove that live in the Cook County portion of Buffalo Grove attend Buffalo Grove High School, while a smaller population of students residing in the Cook County portion of Buffalo Grove attend Wheeling High School.. Those living in the Lake County portion of Buffalo Grove attend Adlai E. Stevenson High School.
There a several local attractions in Buffalo Grove including the Raupp Museum, which is a local history museum. Additionally, Lou Malnati’s Pizzaria, right off of Lake-Cook Rd., is housed in the second oldest building in the village. Near the pizzeria, at Buffalo Grove Rd. and Lake-Cook Rd. is the Buffalo Grove Town Center, which includes the Buffalo Grove Theaters and Escape, a bowling/arcade/baseball batting cages/laser-tag venue.
Several major Illinois roads go through Buffalo Grove, including Milwaukee Avenue (which leads people between Prospect Heights and Lincolnshire), Buffalo Grove Road, Weiland Road, and Arlington Heights Road on the west. To travel east-west, residents generally use Dundee Road, Lake-Cook Road, Deerfield Parkway, and Aptakisic and Half Day Road (Illinois Route 22). Cutting right down the middle is McHenry Road. Buffalo Grove also has had a station , which provides daily rail service between Antioch and Chicago (at Union Station). The train station is located just east of the intersection of Weiland Road and Deerfield Parkway. Many Buffalo Grove residents also may use the Arlington Heights Metra Station, the Deerfield Metra Station, or the Lake Cook Road Metra Station.
